The Chester Beatty Library

The Chester Beatty Library is a unique museum in Ireland housing a collection of European, Middle
Eastern, Asian/East Asian rare books, manuscripts, religious materials and decorative arts. The Library
has established an active intercultural exhibition and learning programme with communities
represented in the collections: European, Islamic, Asian and East Asian. The Library has a core staff of
35 and is funded by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. The Chester Beatty Library
specialises in the following:

  • Museum intercultural learning and dialogue
  • Lifelong learning
  • Engagement with diverse communities
  • Working with volunteers
  • Use of Generic Learning Outcomes in delivery of workshops for children, teens and adults
  • Active member and project coordinator of Education Museum Exchange programme for the Asia
    Europe Museum Network (ASEMUS) which comes under the Asia Europe Foundation (ASEF)
  • Design and delivery of projects with the Inclusion and Diversity Services of Northern Ireland 2012-todate.
    These include lesson plans based on diverse collections from the Chester Beatty Library and
    Ulster Museum of Northern Ireland for primary and post-primary schools
  • Lead partner and coordinator in the Anna Lindh Foundation Irish Network Common Action seminar,
    Understanding Islam in Irish Education in March 2013
