NYC Museum MediaLab Meetup – 3D Workshop Series

Metropolitan Museum of Art New York, USA

type1-5

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, colloquially “the Met”, located in New York City, is the largest art museum in the United States and among the most visited art museums in the world. Through a series of workshops or “3D Fundays”, held at the museum, a group of museum visitors were taught how to use free, easy-to-use 3D software to turn physical objects from the collection into new digital creations of their own that they could 3D print. The MediaLab was interested in promoting 3D-related digital engagement to a wider audience, and learning about methodologies for teaching 3D tools to non-expert museum visitors. The aim of the workshops was to teach 3D modelling employing tools (Tinkercad) that were free, easyto-use, and encouraged sharing of creations (Thingiverse). The meetings were promoted and organised using a shared meetup.com group.
